The AUDA-NEPAD Networks of Water Centers of Excellence are honored to partner with the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW) to contribute towards the implementation of the roadmap to formulate the post-2025 Africa Water Vision and Policy (AWV&P).
This year marks a significant milestone, as the African Union Commission (AUC) and AMCOW accelerate efforts to develop the post-2025 Africa Water Vision and Policy (AWV&P).
As part of the research and capacity development activities in the ACEWATER III project, five post-graduate students and staff from three AUDA-NEPAD Water centres of excellence attended courses offered by the Africa Doctoral Academy (ADA). The courses were offered between 22 January 2025 and 7 February 2025 and offered at Stellenbosch, South Africa The following colleagues attended courses across three weeks.

On 5 December 2025, Dr Nico Elema, Director of the Centre for Collaboration in Africa participated in the Science Forum South Africa in Pretoria, South Africa. As Programme Director of the AUDA-NEPAD Southern African Network of Water Centres of Excellence (and lead of the ACEWATER-III project), he provided insights on how they are able to mobilise large research networks accross Africa. The panel discussion was led by Ms Petunia Ramunenyiwa from the SOuth Africa Department of Water and Sanitation, with panel members from various institutions such as the CSIR, ORASECOM, IMACOM, DBSA and IMWI
A significant milestone was achieved on 19-22 November 2024 with the launch of the European Union (EU) Erasmus-funded Platform for Vocational Excellence (PoVE) Water Scale-up partnership with local actors. The main aim was to initiate PoVE Scale-Up activities into the regional SADC network through the ACEWATER III project.
As part of the ACEWATER-III Project, students from the University of the Western Cape Institute for Water Studies are undertaking various research activities related to developing a standardised methodology for aquifer characterisation in Transboundary groundwater system: Zambezi, Limpopo and Orange-Senqu Basins, Southern Africa.
During the launch of the PoVE, a number of students made presentations to 31 European Union (EU) PoVE network partners on their ACEWATER-III STI transboundary water research projects.
