The Water Research Centre, University of Khartoum, is organizing an online Training Course on Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
All 11 partners attended and actively engaged at this annual symposium. Several emerging scholars and researchers working on the ACEWATER III projects presented their respective research. The Unit for Environmental Ethics at Stellenbosch University, in collaboration with NUST Zimbabwe convened a special session on transboundary water ethics, which was attended by 20 participants. The AUDA-NEPAD SANWATCE secretariat convened a special session on the review of the SADC Water Research Agenda, which was attended by about 50 participants. Dr Patrice Kabeya, the Senior Programme Officer for Water at the SADC Secretariat welcomed the audience and set the scene for the session.
The SANWATCE Secretariat and Stellenbosch Univeristy Water Institute also co-convened two special sessions related to the WASANet project (Water Security in Africa).
AUDA-NEPAD SANWATCE used the opportunity to also convene its annual network consultative meeting.

Mr Everson Ndlovu PhD candidate attended the Climate Change and Futures in Africa Conference in Namibia, and presented on the climate change impacts and pollution on the Deka River, a tributary of the Zambezi River.
As part of the Matebeleland Water Indaba in Zimbabwe, Prof Langa Moyo from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) was invited to give a presentation on implementing the circular economy for water security for the City of Bulawayo by the Public Policy and Research Institute of Zimbabwe.
Outcomes from these deliberations do influence the contribution research and capacity development can make towards a sustainable use of water resources in the region.
Professor Gamal Abdo of the Water Resource Centre of the University of Khartoum, participated in the 2025 Cairo Water Week, in a session organised by ITT of Cologne University of Science and Technology, Germany. The session, themed “Empowering the Next Generation: Science-Based Collaboration and Capacity Building in the Nile Basin“
The session brought together experts and young voices from across Nile Basin countries to show how science, education, and capacity building can shape a resilient future. Professor Abdo gave a presentation on the key WRC activities, regional projects, and strategies for maintaining education amidst the ongoing war in Sudan. Professor Abdo highlighted the ACEWATER III project and its various activities as one of the major collaborative and capacity-building projects of WRC across the Nile Basin and Africa.
The research and capacity development activities are undertaken within the framework of the ACEWATER III project, which is funded by the European Commission.
Prior to the shortcourse that is scheduled to start on 27 October 2025, the Regional Water and Environmental Sanitation Centre Kumasi (RWESCK) on Monday 20 October 2025, received a three member delegation from the National Water Resources Institute (NWRI) Kaduna for a working visit.
The team comprised of Engr. Sylvester Gojim Sara, Dr. Vivien Chigoke Ameso and Engr. Zubair Anuhi Usman. As part of their engagements, they paid a courtesy call on the local ACEWATER III PI, Prof Geophrey Anornu to discuss strategies to strengthen the collaboration between RWESCK and the NWRI. They also toured some of the facilities at the RWESCK, including the water quality labs, hydraulic labs and water resources engineering labs.

The training was attended by 25 participants from academia and the private sector. Prof Rolanda Yonaba at 2iE, Burkina Faso also taught into the course.
