SOUTH AFRICA: ACADEMIC: 1 year Post Doctoral opportunity: innovations in water governance

The Institute for Water Research and the Department of Environmental Science, at Rhodes University in South Africa, seeks an energetic post doctoral researcher to join a dynamic group of interdisciplinary researchers working broadly in the area of water governance in South Africa.

The researcher will work in an inclusive and supportive environment, and will collaborate with researchers from environmental science, environmental education, anthropology, geography and water sciences to synthesise findings across multiple studies.

Key areas of interest and/or expertise for this person might include: complexity theory, social-ecological systems, social learning, transdisciplinarity and multi-scale governance. The successful candidate is expected to produce conceptual and empirical synthesis papers that will inform a broader project funded by the nationally funded Global Change Society and Sustainability Research Programme.

Applicants should have a Ph.D., and an established ability to write and publish academic work.

Dates: January  – December 2013

Salary: R200 000 over 12 months

Travel costs to and from Grahamstown will be covered.
