SA’s electricity supply remains under pressure

SOUTH AFRICA:

Eskom CEO Brian Dames said until the building of South Africa’s four additional power stations are complete, the country’s electricity supply will continue to be under pressure. Speaking at a business breakfast in Pretoria last Friday, Dames told delegates that construction at those plants will be completed in 2019. But he also promised there will be none of the rolling blackouts that crippled the country in 2008.

He already said 50% of construction work has been completed at all four power plants. “We are in the middle of a R340 billion capacity expansion programme – the largest ever undertaken in South Africa. We began in 2005 and we plan to finish by 2019.”

Eskom also urged people to save electricity.
