Nigeria: Katsina Awards N454 Million Water Projects

Katsina — Katsina State government has approved the award of six contracts for the upgrade and the expansion of Semi-urban water supply schemes in different parts of the state at the cost of N454.75 million.

The Commissioner of Water Resources, Alhaji Jamilu Muhammad Danmusa, confirmed this at a joint media briefing he addressed along with the Information Commissioner, Alhaji Gide Sani Batagarawa, in Katsina.

He added that it was the intention of Governor Ibrahim Shema’s administration to ensure that rural communities enjoy safe and portable water to enhance their lives.

The Water Resources Commissioner said contract for the expansion of Kankia Semi-urban Water supply scheme has been approved at N160.68 million and that the contract for expansion of main Semi-urban water supply scheme is similarly approved at N55.09 million.

Danmusa told journalists that the contract for the expansion of the Danmusa Scheme was awarded at N36.29 million to B. Trust Nigeria Limited. On the upgrade of Zango Semi-Urban water supply scheme, the Commissioner said the council has approved its contract at N74 million.

He said the contract for the upgrade of Mai’adua Semi-Urban Water Supply was awarded by the Executive Council at N112.66 million to Waterline Nigeria Limited.

The Batsari Semi-Urban Water Supply Scheme is to be upgraded at N118.87 million and the contract is awarded to China Zanghao Limited.

The Commissioner said all the six contracts are to be completed within three months from the date the agreements are signed by the firms and the government.

Danmusa also said the water projects are part of the promises made by Governor Shema during the election campaign for 2011 general elections.
