Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has donated a water vessel to Tungan Nupawa community of Lafia East Development Area to ease water transportation in the riverine community and boost tourism.
Al-makura who disclosed this recently in Tungan Nupawa, shortly after delivering a high powered speed boat, said the vessel was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the rural community in conveying their farm produce from the farms along the river banks to the markets.
The governor, while lamenting the neglect of the rural areas for long, announced that work would soon commence on the Assakio-Tunga road, leading to the River Tunga, where he said a tourist spot and a fish farm would be established.
Recalling with nostalgia when as a young man in the 80s, he visited the area in company of friends for picnics, the governor stated that it has become necessary to exploit all avenues that will boost the dwindling fortunes of the state, stressing that tourism is one such venture that if properly harnessed, has the potential to transform the state.
He said that it was part of the focus of his administration to boost tourism after providing infrastructure and social development.
Al-Makura described as regrettable, the neglect of the community by previous administrations, adding that his administration will rehabilitate the road from Assakio to Tunga.
