Egypt: New Govt Sets Up Four New Ministries

Prime Minister Hisham Kandil said that the total number of ministries is now 35 after adding 4 new ministries; investment, youth, sports and water.

In light of the new administration being sworn to office before President Mohamed Mursi, Kandil insisted in a press conference on Thursday that the main criteria of electing the administration was qualification, portfolios and grouping different sectors.

The PM added that he has met with 80 different candidates in the past week in an attempt to form the long anticipated government.

“It is time to rally behind the elected president and the cabinet. We are the people’s government, we do not represent one force or another”, Egypt’s PM insisted.

Kandil denied that the government includes former members of the dissolved National Democratic Party, headed by toppled President Hosni Mubarak.

He repeatedly suggested that the government will aim to fulfill the revolution’s goals; bread, freedom and social justice, despite economic challenges such as internal and external debts.
