PROJECT 1: Using IWRM best practices to develop Appropriate Capacity and Training for the benefit of Sub-Saharan Africa Water Security [ACT4SSAWS]

The overall objective is improved awareness of and access to the knowledge that provides more adequate water quantity of suitable quality throughout Sub-Saharan Africa [SSA].
The three specific objectives are to:

  1. Enable SSA water managers and users to implement effective IWRM best practices to better manage water supply and use, waste streams and sanitation services in rural, peri-urban and urban settings;
  2. Address the calls‟ specific objective of poverty reduction, economic growth and social development, provide a common platform for cooperation and collaboration on pertinent research and education, developing community support and training programmes and strengthening capacity of water and waste management institutions; and
  3. Achieve sustainability using four cross-cutting trans-disciplinary research themes both inter- and intra-regionally on: (i)value of water; (ii)water quality; (iii)water quantity; and (iv) climate variability and change adaptation.
