Angola: New Zaire Governor to Give Immediate Priority to Energy and Water Sectors

Mbanza Kongo — The new governor of the northern Zaire Province, José Joanes André, last Wednesday in Mbanza Kongo picked energy and water as the priority sectors of his executive for the next five years.

“I am here to fulfil a clear guideline from our leader, President José Eduardo dos Santos, and as part o f a programme already drafted by the central government (…). One of the basic matters is related to the supply of electricity and water to Mbanza Kongo City”, he said.

Joanes André, who spoke to the press in the end of a visit to Mbanza Kongo Municipality, assured that in his programme it is also included the construction and rehabilitation of more schools and sanitary units in all the municipalities of the province, as well As the rehabilitation of secondary and tertiary roads.

He also explained that the initial days of his mandate will be used to make a survey of the problems affecting the people.

During his visit, the governor checked several social undertakings, as well as learnt about the functioning of some public organs.
